Copper Penny Token from the Bank of Upper Canada, 1850. In 1850, Upper Canada, once part of the province of Quebec pre confederation and now known as Southern and Northern Ontario was given permission to issue coinage due to a large coin shortage. The coinage consisted of penny and half penny tokens. The penny features the image of St George slaying the Dragon on the face and the Coat of Arms of Upper Canada on the reverse.
Measuring 33.4mm in diameter, the penny is in excellent condition with very little wear evident. An excellent piece to add to your collection.
